Ex-Formula One driver Timo Glock has been confirmed as a BMW driver in the 2013 DTM Championship.
Glock, who left the Marussia F1 team earlier this week, tested with BMW at Valencia yesterday (Thursday) and has now signed up as the manufacturer's eighth driver in DTM.
"It's very exciting for me to drive for BMW again after all these years [Glock was a test driver for BMWs F1 team in 2007], and in such a top-class racing series as the DTM," Glock commented.
"I had a fantastic time in Formula 1, but am now looking forward to battling for victories again with my old friends at BMW Motorsport. That is the approach I shall be taking to the challenge of the DTM.
"After winning the title in such impressive fashion last year, there can be absolutely no question that the BMW M3 DTM has everything it needs to allow us to compete at the front of the field again in 2013."
BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt is optimistic Glock can challenge in his maiden DTM campaign. "We are delighted to have Timo Glock back at BMW Motorsport. He has proven on more than one occasion how valuable he is to any team, thanks to his driving ability and open manner. I am confident Timo will take no time at all to find his feet in the DTM and will give the fans a lot of pleasure."
Defending manufacturers champions BMW run four teams in the DTM, totalling eight cars, and it has yet to be revealed which of those he will compete for in 2013.
Glock competed in F1 for six seasons, making a points scoring debut for Jordan at Montreal in 2004. Spells in Champ Car and GP2 followed, culminating with the GP2 crown in 2007.
A return to F1 with Toyota followed in 2008, spending two years with the team and securing three podium finishes as he impressed alongside Jarno Trulli. A three year spell at Virgin/Marussia followed, before making the move into DTM.
The German will compete at Brands Hatch on 17-19 May alongside British stars Andy Priaulx (also at BMW), Jamie Green (Audi) and Gary Paffett (Mercedes). Tickets are on sale now priced at £29, with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click this link.
