Newly crowned F3 Cup champion Chris Dittmann has been named the UK's top national racing single seater driver for 2012 according to Motorsport News.
The 23-year-old, who recorded six victories and 11 podium finishes on his way to becoming the inaugural F3 Cup champion, fought off competition from British Formula Ford and BARC Renault to finish top of the publication's single seater drivers poll. Dittmann edged Intersteps champion Matt Parry and British Formula Ford racer Eric Lichtenstein to the top spot. The full list can be found in this week's issue of Motorsport News.
Competing in the 2012 F3 Cup championship was the Tewkesbury racer's first taste of single seater racing after several years in sportscars. The campaign saw Dittmann secure his first career race victory which soon turned into a maiden championship triumph, ensuring 2012 was a year to remember.
He said: "This just caps off my season nicely. It's been a great year for me. It shows that the F3 Cup has come a long way this season too."
MINI Challenge champion Lee Allen and Marangoni Tyres Production BMW Championship champion Ben Winrow finished second and third in the Tin Tops Top 10 for 2012.
F3 Cup also features heavily in Motorsport News' national single seater 2012 review inside this week's issue. The publication described the championship as "One of the big success stories of 2012".
Dittmann and his team are already well under way with their preparations for the 2013 season and he hopes to be in a position to announce his plans before Christmas.
He added: "We've received a lot of interest about next year and we are seriously talking to a couple of drivers. We have also done a bit of testing during the winter which has yielded promising results."
