Jamie Green eyes DTM title with Audi switch

Monday, December 10 2012

British DTM title contender Jamie Green has joined Audi's line-up for the 2013 season, after challenging for the title with Mercedes-Benz this year.

The Leicester-born driver, who came within a few laps of winning the first DTM race to be held at Brands Hatch in 2006, joined Mercedes-Benz after winning the Formula 3 Euro Series. Having finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the Briton impressed early on after switching to Touring Cars, taking two pole positions in 2005. From 83 starts he has taken 8 victories and 6 pole positions.

Green's third place in the 2012 championship standings followed a season in which he was the only driver to have scored points in all ten races. This included a win at the Norisring, continuing a tradition of victories that began in 2008, since then he has only failed to take the chequered flag at the Nuremburg circuit once.

Audi's head of Motosport, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, is sure that Green will spearhead his aim to return the Ingolstadt marque to the top of the championship table. "There's no doubt about Jamie Green being one of the best DTM racers currently in the field," he said. "He proved this in 2012 and was more or less able to choose the manufacturer he wanted to compete for in the DTM - we're delighted that he has opted for Audi and convinced that with his experience and speed, he'll truly be strengthening our DTM squad."

Green confirmed the reason behind his decision: "I'm convinced that with Audi, I'll be able to achieve what I've been deprived of so far: to win the DTM title. I really owe my previous employer a lot and making the change after so many joint years has certainly not been easy for me. But I carefully considered this step and look forward to a new challenge - I can't wait to sit in the Audi A5 for the first time."

Tickets for the DTM at Brands Hatch on 17-19 May are available from £29, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
