Former Grand Prix driver Mark Blundell will be making a full-time return to racing in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship this year, with the front-running United Autosports team.
Blundell, who was a race winner in the US-based Champ Car series and at Le Mans, will once again be sitting behind the wheel of McLaren machinery, in one of two of MP4-12Cs fielded by the team. The car made its British GT debut at Snetterton last year, recording a maiden series victory in race two at the Norfolk circuit.
The British driver has made regular appearances in European and US sportscar racing, and has also guested in the DTM-supporting VW Scirocco R-Cup at Brands Hatch. He will be sharing the United Autosports McLaren with Richard Meins.
Announcing his full-time comeback at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, Blundell said: "With United Autosports I know I've got a great team. Richard is a strong driver and we'll go and do the best we can. If we do that, we'll get some good results and get this team to the next step."
United Autosports has expanded to three cars for its 2013 campaign. Team owner Zak Brown and former British F3 champion Alvaro Parente will share the other McLaren. Meanwhile British GT regular Matt Bell and Mark Patterson will drive the Audi R8 LMS ultra that the team has previously raced.
The championship will kick off at the Oulton Park International circuit on 30/31 March, before visiting Snetterton 300 on 15/16 June and Brands Hatch GP on 10/11 August. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the links.
