Byrne tops warm up despite crash

Sunday, October 09 2011

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne topped the times in morning warm up at Brands Hatch ahead of today's pair of title-deciding races despite the HM Plant Honda ace crashing at Graham Hill Bend in the final minute of the damp session as conditions improve at the Kent circuit.

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill had led the session early on before Byrne moved to the top of the times before a crash, but the HM Plant Honda rider was able to pick the bike up and return to the garage unhurt. Dan Linfoot was third fastest on the Tyco Honda as he mastered the conditions ahead of Title Fighters Josh Brookes and Hill in fourth and fifth respectively. Championship leader John Hopkins watched from the pit wall as he decided not to take advantage of the wet practice session.

Michael Rutter was fifth fastest on the Rapid Solicitors-Bathams Ducati as he dropped down the order in the final minutes; he was ahead of Jon Kirkham and Karl Harris. Newly crowned Mirror.co.uk BSB Evo champion Glen Richards was ninth fastest as Steve Mercer on the Jentin Honda rounded out the top ten.
